Why Is The RUC Process Flawed?

The American Medical Association/Specialty Society Relative Value Scale Update Committee (RUC) is flawed because:

  • The clinical comparators used are not nearly close to ablation
  • Undue emphasis on merely procedural times – New inventions and years of experience has helped small number of EPs to do these faster without any decrement in the risk or complexity of the procedure
  • RUC sampling was inadequate. Conceptually the sampling rates recommended were insufficient by statistical methodology
